State panel will recommend Daviess as 'work ready'

Daviess County has received a unanimous recommendation for certification from the state’s Work Ready Review Panel and is well-positioned to become Kentucky’s first Work Ready County, officials said Thursday.

The Kentucky Workforce Investment Board will meet Feb. 16 and act on the review panel’s recommendations.

“We’re not certified yet, but we received a very favorable review,” said Helen Mountjoy, who is the county’s co-leader in the certification process with Daviess County Judge-Executive Al Mattingly.

A small Daviess County group will go to Frankfort for the workforce investment board’s meeting, she said.

“We had such terrific support from the community for our application,” Mountjoy said. Both the chamber of commerce and the economic development corporation boards endorsed the application, and about 11 community representatives accompanied Mountjoy, Mattingly and EDC President Nick Brake to the review on Wednesday, she said.

The new state certification is designed to help counties signal to potential business and industries that they can meet their work force needs.
